Water Conservation
The U.S. population has doubled over the past 50 years, while our thirst for water has tripled. With at least 40 states anticipating water shortages by 2024, the need to conserve water is critical.
The Portland metropolitan region is fortunate to have multiple sources of drinking water from surface sources (lakes and rivers) and groundwater (aquifers). Most people in our region get their water from one of these five sources: the Bull Run Watershed, Clackamas River, groundwater, Tualatin / Trask Rivers, or Willamette River.
We can all help protect our most precious natural resource; our water! Everybody can make a difference by using water more efficiently without much effort or lifestyle change. Thanks to creative new ideas, innovative products, technology and programs like the EPA’s WaterSense, today’s households and businesses have many opportunities to conserve water simply and cost effectively.
