Backflow and Cross Connection
Backflow Devices are also referred to as Cross Connection Devices.
Backflow (Cross Connection) devices regulate the waste, or non-potable, water movement in your pipes. The device(s) keeps dirty water from flushing backward into the water system, where it could contaminate the potable, drinkable water supply. Water District’s are required by the Oregon Health Authority to obtain and maintain files of annual testing certificates issued by a certified tester for each device in their District.
The Oregon Health Authority requires that the following scenarios require backflow devices to be installed:
- Homes/businesses with irrigation systems
- Homes/businesses with pools and hot tubs
- Homes/businesses with fire suppression systems
- Medical offices
- Car washes
- Restaurants
- Agricultural farms and dairys
- Care facilities
- Schools
If you have questions on your backflow requirements, please feel free to contact us at 503-292-4894!
Backflow devices are to be tested once a year by a certified backflow testing agency. A listing of these providers can be found at:
https://public.health.oregon.gov/HealthyEnvironments/DrinkingWater/CrossConnection/Pages/index.aspx, under List of Backflow Testers.
Once your test is complete, your tester will submit the test reports to Raleigh Water District where we maintain a database of our customer who have backflow devices on their properties, the frequency of testing, and device information.
